Abandoned cart recovery, run by an AI agent
A shopper who reached checkout already decided. Recovering that order is the cheapest revenue in the store — and the flow that most often gets set up once and never touched again.
Cart abandonment sequences are close to universal and rarely maintained. The standard setup is three emails on a fixed schedule with the same discount for everyone, written during launch week. That leaves money on the table in two directions: it under-recovers shoppers who needed a reason other than price, and it over-discounts shoppers who would have returned anyway. The Retention and Analyst agents work this surface together — one reads why people are stalling, the other rewrites the sequence around it.
Diagnose before you discount
Discounting is the reflex answer and often the wrong one. Analyst looks at where in the checkout the drop happens and on which device, because a shipping-cost surprise, a slow payment step, and a forced account creation all look identical in a headline abandonment rate — and none of them are solved by ten percent off.

Timing from your data, not a template
The right first-touch delay depends on your category. A considered purchase abandoned on desktop at midday behaves differently from an impulse item abandoned on mobile at midnight. Retention sets send timing from your own recovery curve, then keeps adjusting it as the curve moves.
Different messages for different reasons
Instead of one sequence, the agent maintains variants: reassurance and shipping clarity for first-time buyers, restock or size guidance for returning customers, and an incentive reserved for the segment where an incentive demonstrably changes the outcome rather than subsidising a sale you would have made anyway.
How it works
Connect checkout and email
Analyst reads checkout behaviour from GA4 and order data; Retention reads existing flows and their recovery rates in Klaviyo.
Fix the leak first
Where the cause is a page or checkout problem, it goes to Builder — no email sequence outperforms removing the reason people left.
Rebuild and keep tuning
The sequence is rebuilt with segment-specific timing and copy, then revised on a recurring cycle as recovery data accumulates.
What you get
Recovery timing derived from your own abandonment curve
Incentives limited to the segments where they actually change behaviour
Checkout problems fixed instead of papered over with discounts
A sequence that gets revised on a schedule rather than never

Frequently asked questions
How many emails should a cart sequence have?
There is no universal number. What matters is that each message has a distinct job — reassurance, urgency, objection handling — and that you stop when the incremental revenue per send goes negative for that segment. The agent measures that rather than assuming three.
Should I always include a discount?
No. A discount in the first message trains customers to abandon carts deliberately. The agent tests whether an incentive changes outcomes for a given segment before it becomes standard, and it usually belongs later in the sequence, if at all.
Does this work with SMS as well as email?
Yes. Channel choice is driven by consent status and by which channel a segment actually responds to, and the sequence is planned across both rather than duplicated in each.
What about people who abandon before reaching checkout?
That is a browse-abandonment problem, which is a different flow with different intent signals. The agents build it separately rather than folding it into cart recovery.
